Federally Incorporated Charities Must Apply for a Certificate of Continuance

June 25, 2009

The Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (Bill C-4) received Royal Assent on June 23, 2009.  This new federal legislation replaces the Canada Corporations Act.  Any federal not-for-profit corporation incorporated under the old legislation will have three years (from a future date to be fixed by the federal cabinet) to apply for a certificate of continuance under the new legislation or face dissolution.  No fees will be charged for this application for continuation.

CCCC will continue to monitor developments in this process and keep members advised of how to file for the continuance.
