BC & Ontario Charities Still Waiting for HST Information

On December 15, 2009, Bill C-62, the Provincial Choice Tax Framework Act, received Royal Assent.  This Bill amends the Excise Tax Act by implementing the new fully harmonized value-added tax which will become effective July 1, 2010, in British Columbia and Ontario. The rates will be 13 percent in Ontario and 12 percent in British Columbia.  The HST will be administered by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). CCCC has been anticipating the release of information by CRA regarding the implementation of the HST and the impact on the charitable sector. CRA has not yet provided any HST guidance specific to charities. CCCC will continue to monitor the release of information and keep members advised when information is available.
