Christian Charities See Slight Improvement in Donation Revenue

February 24, 2010

Elmira, ON–Today the Canadian Council of Christian Charities released the results of an updated member survey on how current economic conditions are impacting charities.  Charities were asked how their donation revenue from August to December 2009 compared with the same period one year ago.

Of the 635 organizations responding, there is a slight improvement in results with 32% experiencing an increase in donations compared to the October 2009 (28%) and March 2009 (25%) surveys.  While these results bring some encouragement, there are still 40% of ministries dealing with the impact of decreasing donations.

John Pellowe, CEO of CCCC, says "There has been a lot of pain as ministries have had to lay good people off, but there is a strong belief among ministry leaders that they have done the right thing and that they are through the worst of the economic storm.  Some leaders are using this time to reflect on their results and re-envision their ministry."

Relief & development, compassion ministries & Christian media have seen the largest increases in donations for the survey period ranging from 41% to 48% while mission-sending organizations and schools have the lowest increase in donations for the survey period at 16%-18%.

Larger ministries seem to be experiencing a greater proportion of increased donations than average.

In spite of navigating through some difficult months, there continue to be stories of God’s faithfulness and a trust that He will provide for ministry needs.
