Global Experts in Waterloo to Discuss Transparency and Effectiveness in the Charitable Sector

May 10, 2010

Elmira, ON–Charity experts from Europe and the United States will discuss transparency and effectiveness in the charitable sector at a forum to take place Friday, May 14, 2010 at Bingeman’s Conference Centre, Kitchener.  Other presentations will be made by the Charities Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency, which will review its policy priorities for the charitable sector and the major compliance issues in the sector, and by Cardus, which will discuss current ideas for stimulating private donations to charity.

The forum is part of the annual meeting of the International Committee on Fundraising Organizations (ICFO), an association of charity standard-setting agencies that monitor charities for compliance.  ICFO has member agencies in twelve nations in Europe, North America and Asia.  The meeting is hosted by ICFO’s Canadian member, the Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC) with the support of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and is open to the public at no cost.

John Pellowe, CEO of CCCC, says the forum “is about sharing ideas and suggestions to ensure that the charitable sector continues to operate in a way that inspires the public’s trust and confidence.  Accountability is a major issue for Canadians, and this forum will help us address those concerns.”

CCCC is an association of more than 3,000 charities that collectively receive 22% of all donations made in Canada.
