Student Aid Programs (Scholarship, Bursaries, etc.)

How can we set up and operate a scholarship or student aid program within the purposes and objects for which our charity exists, while meeting the provisions of the Income Tax Act?

This session will discuss:

  • structuring the program within the parameters of the common law and the charity’s governing documents,
  • meeting the requirements of the Income Tax Act, and
  • setting reasonable operating criteria of the program on the basis of academic achievement and/or needs based assistance.

This session will be of particular interest to those charities that currently operate student assistance programs, or those contemplating setting one up.
