Receipting for Religious Schools

Religious schools may be able to issue a charitable donation receipt for part of the tuition paid by a parent or guardian of students attending the school. How do we go about determining the amount that is receiptable?

The session will go through a step-by-step analysis to determine the ability to issue receipts for part or all of the payments made to a religious school. Receipts are permissible:

  • When no “advantage” is received, and
  • The amount by which payments exceed “secular” education costs paid by parents or guardians in the case of elementary and secondary schools only.

This session should be of interest to all directors and administrators in religious schools, both those that are church schools and those that operate as para-church elementary and secondary schools.
