Fundraising Events

There are many creative ways to raise funds for good causes, but charities should be cautious about using fundraising methods that may be perceived negatively (e.g., the use of external or commission-based fundraisers, lotteries, or tax shelters).

When running a fundraising event, it’s helpful to keep in mind

  • what kinds of gifts you will accept;
  • what conditions (if any) apply to receiving the gifts;
  • how you will value the gifts received;
  • whether your event includes an advantage that would impact the donor’s receipt.

It is helpful for a charity to have parameters and policies relating to acceptable attitudes and methods of fundraising before it launches into the actual work of raising resources.
