Bussey will be presenting a public lecture at the Faculty of Law, Leiden University, Netherlands on <strong>Friday June 28, 2019 starting at 1:00 pm EST.<\/strong>  It can be watched live over the internet. Instructions are given below on how you may obtain the link on a first come first serve basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the 27th of June,&nbsp;<strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/leidenuniv.academia.edu\/BarryWBussey\" target=\"_blank\">Barry Bussey<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;will&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.universiteitleiden.nl\/en\/events\/2019\/06\/the-legal-revolution-against-the-accommodation-of-religion-the-secular-age-v.-the-sexular-age\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defend his dissertation<\/a>&nbsp;on the future of the legal accommodation of freedom of religion.&nbsp;According to Bussey, there has been an ongoing revolution against this accommodation for quite some time now.&nbsp;He blames this on the inability of the law to push back against the critics of religion that battle for gender equality, a phenomenon that jeopardizes public religious organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To celebrate his promotion, Bussey will hold a reading on the 28th of June on the historical and philosophical roots of freedom of religion and the legal status of this freedom, both in present-day society and in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.notredame.edu.au\/about\/schools\/sydney\/law\/school-staff\/professor-iain-benson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professor Iain Benson<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;will be present at the symposium as a co-speaker.&nbsp;Benson is Philosopher of Law and Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney, Australia.&nbsp;His philosophical work covers a variety of subjects.&nbsp;Amongs other things, such as &#8216;secular&#8217;, &#8216;religious&#8217; and &#8216;non-religious&#8217;, and the confusion this misuse causes in both the legal work field as well as in our everyday lives.&nbsp;The argument for a society that allows religious and non-religious individuals and organizations to exist on an equal footing, in a way that leaves room for both to agree to disagree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/borisvanderham.nl\/biography\" target=\"_blank\">Boris van der Ham<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;will also be present as a co-speaker.&nbsp;Van der Ham has been a member of the Dutch parliament for over a decade.&nbsp;In this position, he was the initiator and writer of the law which led to the fall of blasphemy law in the Netherlands.&nbsp;At present, he is the chairman of numerous associations, among others the Humanistisch Verbond (the Dutch Humanist Association).&nbsp;This association aims to promote freedom of expression, equal treatment of all members of society and the right of self-determination of all individuals.&nbsp;Since 2018 he is also a board member of<a href=\"https:\/\/humanists.international\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Humanists International<\/a>&nbsp;, the international humanitarian umbrella organization.&nbsp;In 2018, Van der Ham wrote the book &#8220;New Freethinkers,&#8221; a book on the position of ex-Muslims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to watch it live:&nbsp;<\/strong> <br>Step one:&nbsp;send an email to: svdiqit@gmail.com,With subject:&nbsp;live stream tffr <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Step two: an email with the link to the lecture will be sent to you &#8211; click on the link on Friday June 28, 2019 at 1pm EST (2:30pm Newfoundland)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information:&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/diqit.nl\/2019\/06\/20\/27-28-juni-2019-the-future-of-freedom-of-religion\/\">https:\/\/diqit.nl\/2019\/06\/20\/27-28-juni-2019-the-future-of-freedom-of-religion\/<\/a><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/mail.google.com\/407f6f51-fcc6-412c-bb08-0255ee27cbea\" alt=\"image.png\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barry W.
