{"id":34063,"date":"2022-02-18T14:46:04","date_gmt":"2022-02-18T19:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cccc.org\/news_blogs\/?p=34063"},"modified":"2023-02-21T12:02:29","modified_gmt":"2023-02-21T17:02:29","slug":"federal-black-led-philanthropic-endowment-fund-submission-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cccc.org\/news_blogs\/legal\/2022\/02\/18\/federal-black-led-philanthropic-endowment-fund-submission-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Black-Led Philanthropic Endowment Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The federal government has committed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.budget.gc.ca\/2021\/report-rapport\/toc-tdm-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$200M to establish a Black-Led Philanthropic Endowment Fund<\/a> to support Black-led charities and organizations serving youth and social initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fund is intended to &#8220;create a sustainable source of funding &#8230; [to] improve social and economic outcomes in Black communities&#8221; in a way that reflects key features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be governed to reflect the diversity of Black communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be accountable to those communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support diverse social and economic projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See regional expertise guide funding decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To move this initiative forward, the government is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/canadian-heritage\/campaigns\/ideas-black-led-philanthropic-fund.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asking for submissions<\/a> from Black-led charities, organizations and interested Canadians on how to design the Endowment Fund. Specifically, it is asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li>How can the Fund\u2019s philanthropic principles center the lived experiences and realities of Black communities, including in its governance?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can the Fund remain accountable to Black communities and its governance reflect the diversity of these communities?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How should the Endowment Fund prioritize its investments and its granting?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What&nbsp;should we consider when selecting an entity or entities responsible for the Endowment Fund?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If this is an initiative that fits your charity&#8217;s purposes and mission, the government has invited you to answer some or all of the questions but the maximum length is three pages.
