What's Inside:
November presents an opportunity for charitable organizations to showcase their impact, with a focus on attracting financial support. To this end, CCCC is pleased to share several resources with you this month as you engage with those close to your ministry, sharing your mission and vision for the future. Our new Charity Signal podcast and accompanying Knowledge Base topic handbook will enhance your ability to effectively present your organization to others. Also, be sure to sign up for a Content Marketing & Creative Messaging webinar on November 19 at 02:00 pm EST to gather additional tips to help tell your organization's story.
This month, we have released a fundraising challenge to encourage you to "Make the Ask" for gifts of publicly traded securities. Did you know that CCCC is ready to assist you with these gifts through its Community Trust Fund? Continue reading below and contact us if you have any questions. We are here to assist you!
Finally, we are pleased to share a new resource focused on accounting for charities, where we will walk you through the essential concepts, practices, and tools used in Canadian Christian charities. This resource covers everything from fund accounting and the chart of accounts to preparing for year-end and using software wisely. The goal is to help you understand not just how to complete accounting tasks, but how each one contributes to your ministry’s financial stewardship.
As Christian communicators, we have the unique privilege of sharing stories that point people toward God’s work through our ministries. Our hope is that this month’s resources inspire you to tell those stories boldly and remind you that faithful storytelling is ministry too.
*NEW* The Charity Signal Podcast
We are excited to introduce the Charity Signal, CCCC's *new* podcast on key topics related to ministry communications. Each episode, led by CCCC's Head of Marketing, Jeff Lukin, is less than 30 minutes in length. Discover how effective communication drives your ministry's success, learn to tell your organization's story with integrity, and define its value proposition. This key information is also supported further through our Communications Strategy topic handbook and worksheets available in our Knowledge Base.

We are always improving the CCCC Knowledge Base to better serve our members. To this end, we would like to inform you about some changes to the drop-down menus in each of the Knowledge Base categories. For a summary of each topic, as always, you will find a drop-down menu that lists the various types of information we have posted. If you are seeking guidance about the topic at hand, access the "Topic Handbook" section. The "Related Readings" section complements the Topic Handbook information with more specific articles on the topic. These are the two primary changes. Other menu options are also available (unchanged) in the drop-down menu, which offer access to other resources like sample documents that can be downloaded or articles that provide legal education.

Ministries often struggle to articulate their purpose clearly and consistently. Without clarity, faithful storytelling, and intentional communication, organizations risk disengagement from stakeholders. This guide offers a unified approach to communicating with both effectiveness and spiritual integrity.

While many accounting principles are the same across all sectors, charities operate in a different financial and regulatory context. Understanding these differences is essential for proper financial management. Fundraising & the Community Trust Fund
If you are a fundraiser for your church or charity, you may encounter generous donors who wish to make gifts of securities, as they are aware of the enhanced tax benefits that this type of donation can provide. Is your charity able to manage gifts of securities? If not, don't miss out on the opportunity to receive a donation! As a CCCC member, we are here to assist you.
The Community Trust Fund (CTF) can accept gifts of securities on your organization's behalf and handle all administrative matters, including valuation, receipting, and accounting, for a modest fee deducted from the proceeds of the securities' sale. Read more about the CTF and feel free to book a quick call with Nick Lall, CCCC's Head of Group Benefits.

Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2026 applications open November 4 and close December 11 at 11:59 PST. This is much earlier than in past years, when applications were not open until mid-December and sometimes even into January.
An earlier open date is great news. It hopefully means earlier decision-making and communication to grant recipients. In the past, applicants often had to wait until after the CSJ job start date (and some cases after the latest job end date!) before finding out whether they received a grant. Improving timeliness was one key recommendation CCCC made in our 2023 submissions to the House of Commons committee studying the CSJ program. In its reply to the Committee's Report, the government committed to earlier application start dates and it is encouraging to see CSJ 2026 following this trend.
As of writing, the CSJ webpage reflected information, criteria, and articles of agreement from 2025. For the most recent updates about the program and any changes for the 2026 program, be sure to subscribe to CCCC Blog.
Report on the Charities Program 2024-2025
According to CRA’s Report on the Charities Program 2024-2025, 30% of new charitable registrations were for organizations that advance religion, the second largest category. The top category, at 42% is other purposes beneficial to the community, with both advancing education and relieving poverty at 14%. The numbers for new religious charities are virtually identical to 2022-2023 (29%) and 2023-2024 (32%).
The Report shows 2,720 organization applied for charitable status, 82% of which were granted. The primary reasons for denying registration included: lack of information on proposed activities, carrying on non-charitable activities, acting as a conduit, lack of direction and control over resource use, and private benefit concerns.
The Report shares other interesting information, including that CRA conducted 220 audits and issued or prepared to issue 21 notices of intention to revoke in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Again, this pales in comparison to the 1,146 delinquent revocations, which happens when charities don’t file an annual return.
Amongst the 62,597 phone calls received by the Charities Directorate, the most common questions were about T3010 filing, applying for charitable registration, and making account changes. These are unchanged from previous years.
If you read all the way to the bottom, you’ll also see that the Charities Directorate completed a training suite that included religious literacy, along with monthly religious literacy events during the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
