What's Inside
Summer is here, and many of you are preparing for Vacation Bible Schools, camps, mission trips, and other seasonal ministries. Others are planning time away with family and friends. Whatever your summer looks like, we hope you can find opportunities to rest, be refreshed, and enjoy the season. As you serve your communities this summer, we also encourage you to invest in your ministry's future. To help you prepare for the busy months ahead, we've highlighted several resources in the CCCC Knowledge Base that can strengthen your organization and support your team.
You may want to explore our updated resource on developing job descriptions, which can help you attract and retain the right people and build a stronger ministry team. We also invite you to read articles from The Studio that explore how a healthy learning culture and thoughtful theological reflection can contribute to long-term ministry effectiveness.
Looking ahead, join us in July for a practical webinar on project management. We'll share proven tools and techniques that ministry leaders can use to organize initiatives, improve collaboration, and move important projects forward with confidence.
We also encourage you to review the latest updates from CCCC's Legal Affairs team regarding Bill C-9 and our participation as advisors to the Canada Revenue Agency via the Technical Issues Working Group. These efforts reflect CCCC's ongoing commitment to advocating for the Christian charitable sector and representing the interests of our members in important regulatory discussions.
Thank you for the faithful work you do every day. We are grateful for the opportunity to support your ministry. We pray that this season brings both encouragement and renewal as you continue to serve your communities and advance the kingdom for his sake.
Kevin Seguin
Head of Administration
When I finished my undergraduate degree with dreams of going into pastoral ministry, I never would have imagined that I would end up serving the church from a place like CCCC. But I have come to deeply appreciate that ministry support can take many forms, and my role as Head of Administration allows me to serve Christian charities and churches in a practical, behind-the-scenes way.
My work includes internal operations, administration, systems and processes, and our affinity program. Much of what I do is about creating clarity and eliminating roadblocks. I say it this way to my colleagues: "My job is to make it easy for you to do your job." One of the things I enjoy most is the variety. On any given day, I may be improving a process, supporting an internal project, reviewing an affinity opportunity, or being responsive to a sudden request for administrative support.
Outside of work, when I’m not coaching baseball, I'm a husband and father of three, navigating raising teens in a complex world. I’m incredibly grateful I get to serve the church and our members through my work at CCCC.

Updated Topic Handbook on Job Descriptions
When someone joins an organization, both the employee and employer should have a clear understanding of what the role involves. Employees agree to perform certain duties in exchange for compensation, so it is important that expectations are clearly defined from the beginning. Without clear role expectations, misunderstandings can develop about responsibilities, priorities, and performance. A job description helps prevent that confusion by outlining the key duties, responsibilities, and expectations associated with a position. Job descriptions are important internal documents. They provide clarity for employees, supervisors, and team members by defining who is responsible for what. They also support accountability, strengthen communication, and help organizations operate in a healthy and effective way.
Organizational Learning Culture
How does your team learn? On a mission trip one summer, Canadian students were taken aback when their hosts asked why they would read the Bible on their own. Their hosts approached scripture primarily as a communal activity rather than an individual practice. Experiences that challenge our assumptions can open new opportunities for growth, both personally and within our ministries. In The Studio, we believe healthy ministries never stop learning and often gain valuable insights from people outside their own teams. In her article “Fostering a Learning Culture”, Lynda MacGibbon, Vice President, People and Culture, InterVarsity, shares practical insights on creating environments where teams learn together.
Culture of Theological Reflection
There is a different rhythm in the summer months. While for some of us it means being busy, for many of us it provides extra time to breathe. A quote from Keith Dow, Manager, Organizational and Spiritual Life, Karis Disability Services, in his article on Theological Reflection provides a thought to sit with this summer. “What if faithfulness sometimes sounds like 'playfulness,' patience, slowness, courage, or quiet?” One of The Studio's pillars is to be Faithfully Christian. May you find moments of inspiration over these months.

Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, has passed the House of Commons following debate and amendment in the Senate and will come into force by late July 2026. CCCC has published a blog series examining the Bill, the concerns it raises, and our advocacy efforts throughout the legislative process. Of particular concern is the removal of the good faith religious defence from the hate propaganda sections in the Criminal Code. The Department of Justice takes the position that the law does not criminalize religious teaching or restrict the ability to preach, read scripture, or practice religion.
The key question is how the new provisions will be enforced. Existing hate propaganda offences already provide a range of tools, many of which have not been enforced to address the wilful promotion of hatred. If charges arise from the new provisions, there could be constitutional challenges, particularly in light of the removal of the good faith religious defence. The Supreme Court of Canada has described the defences as an important factor to ensuring the hate offences remain constitutional.
We will closely follow the implementation and enforcement of Bill C-9 and continue to advocate for the protection of good faith religious expression.
CRA Clarifies how the Federal Government Plans to Modernize the Charitable Sector
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) recently provided some clarity following the federal government's Spring Economic Update, Canada Strong For All (Update) in which the federal government announced it would undertake "to modernise the framework for the charitable sector in 2026-27." The CRA explained that these changes will involve “leveraging advances in technology and digitization”.
The CRA will work with the Technical Issues Working Group to gather feedback and support best practices when modernizing its services. CCCC is a participant in the Technical Issues Working Group, and has engaged in multiple consultations with the CRA to maintain a Christian perspective on issues affecting the charitable sector.
In its efforts to support modernization, the CRA asks all charities to complete their Form T3010, Registered Charity Information Return online starting in 2027. CCCC has developed a CRA-Certified T3010 software tool to assist members in completing their returns online.
Given the broad range of what "modernization" could have met, the CRA information gives welcome clarity and reassurance to that the focus will be on technological improvements rather than an overhaul of the sector.
